Dmitry Fyodorov

Today I don't bring you a new album to check out. Instead I want you to turn your concentration to Dmitry Fyodorov which most accurately is described as below, taken from the Swedish (I think they are anyway!) duo's website:

"Dmitry Fyodorov - once a successful attack player in HC CSKA Moscow that mysteriously disappeared after an accident on the ice. Now, nearly 30 years later, his soul has returned in the form of dark, distorted house music to bring havoc to dance floors across the globe."

Icy cold and harsh Electrohouse is what can be expected. And you can bet your low-med salary on that it's gooooood! They have been putting awesome tracks every month this year which I have collected with amusement. I'm looking your way, Gab! This is definitely something for you:

The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button

The legendary (non)brothers from the UK had a blast with their fifth studio album released in 2005. If there's any dance album you'd like to check out from the past, it's The Chemical Brothers' most danceable and modern club-oriented album to this date. Push The Button pushes several and all the right buttons. I'd say it's a landmark record for British electronic dance music. Maybe the songs should've been edited down a bit, but in most cases this sixty minute album delivers fill dancefloor thrill all the way down. I won't respect you as my friends anymore unless you purchase this album right away!

Mr. Oizo - Lambs Anger

As you all know, I've been away for a week's vacation on the Canaries! Wonderful! But now I'm back with some more awesome electronic dance music! This time it's rather fresh stuff... from no other than Frenchman Mr. Oizo. I know I've told you about and also showed some of you the old Levi's campaign and the video for Flat Beat featuring the yellow puppet Flat Eric who you can see above in the artwork. Lambs Anger is more like a mix of short glitchy tracks that Mr. Oizo has done but it's definitely one of his most accessible and most importantly danceable releases! Strongly recommended for mind-busting tongue-twisting electro fun!

Modeselektor - Hello Mom!

Now let's check out Modeselektor's first album! You neeeed to hear it! Modeselektor make the best Eurocrunk, which they call it, around! Merged with techno and electro the sounds is astonishingly fresh and groundbreaking. Sick basslines, clever studio tricks, cutup vocals and mental bleeps and blops make up Hello Mom! as one of 2005's finest debuts. Weirdly enough!

Soulwax - Most Of The Remixes...

Not only does this release have one of the longest full names in music history:

"Most of the remixes we've made for other people over the years except for the one for Einstürzende Neubauten because we lost it and a few we didn't think sounded good enough or just didn't fit in length-wise, but including some that are hard to find because either people forgot about them or simply because they haven't been released yet, a few we really love, one we think is just ok, some we did for free, some we did for money, some for ourselves without permission and some for friends as swaps but never on time and always at our studio in Ghent."

but it has also got the longest full streak of absolutely pure rave genius! I dare say that this is THE definite remix collection of all time. Soulwax could keep doing remixes for an eternety instead of producing others and making alternative rock.

The Chemical Brothers - Surrender

Surrender is perhaps The Chemical Brothers' most acid and addicting album. Sour synths keep the addiction up and the pure psychedelica from The Private Psychedelic Reel from the previous album lingers on and is further accentuated. Surrender is a wicked and mind-blowing result but perhaps they could have fused it a little more clearly with dance music? But the album is still a markpoint of change for the brothers towards a more dancey style.

Daft Punk - Homework

If you're to start anywhere, my beloved friends, when it comes to Daft Punk, it's in their debut of course. But there's also another reason why you should start off with Homework. It's because it's a groundbreaking dance album establishing the force of repetition and the advantage of a funky bassline. While perhaps Cassius have the title of pioneers of the definite pure French touch sound, Homework remains the best-selling, most-praised and best record of that core sound.

Modeselektor - Happy Birthday!

German duo Modeselektor have a lot of wacky and weird stuff going on but Happy Birthday from 2007 is an album I urge to ALL of my friends to check out. They go bonkers with the bass on Hyper Hyper and Black Block while both TTC and Puppetmastaz has some of the best hip hop tracks from that year. It's a wicked experience and very underestimated as a dance release and serious proof of MDSLKTR's talent.
